UK FOREIGN MINISTER VISITS ALBOX
Representatives of the AUAN were very pleased to be invited to attend a private meeting between Chris Bryant, Minister for Europe, and four of the Albox families threatened with the demolition of their homes.
Also present at the meeting, were Giles Paxman, the British Ambassador, and Steve Jones, the British Consul. Mr Bryant, who was well informed on this subject, reassured the affected families that the British Government were both aware of and concerned about the situation in the area. He went on to say that, though the UK has no jurisdiction in the affairs of Spain, he would do everything in his power to help. He also referred to the detrimental economic impact this scandal has had on Spain.
Homeowners told him of the stress and legal expense they are suffering as a result of the demolition threat, despite having purchased their homes in good faith and being in possession of all the correct licences. They stressed to the minister that a quick and equitable solution was required to this problem. Maura Hillen (AUAN President) raised the disgraceful track record of the administration with respect to the payment of compensation to Helen and Len Prior and the difficulties surrounding the ‘one by one’ solution currently proposed by the Junta.
After speaking with the homeowners, the Minister went on to have a closed meeting with the Mayor of Albox, Jose Garcia. Before leaving, he spoke of a planned meeting with Juan Espadas, the Planning Minister of the Junta de Andalucia.
The AUAN are pursuing all possible avenues to bring about a solution to the problem of urban abuses in this area, including making sure the Foreign Office, UK MPs and MEPs are kept informed.
Together with any legal means available, diplomatic efforts and the pressure of public opinion are important ways to help us achieve our aim of finding a rapid and effective solution to the problem for the benefit of everyone who lives here.

EL MINISTRO DE ESTADO BRITÁNICO PARA EUROPA VISITA ALBOX
Representantes del AUAN (Abusos Urbanísticos Almanzora No) tuvieron la oportunidad hoy de asistir a una reunión privada entre Chris Bryant, el ministro de Estado británico para Europa, y cuatro de las familias Albojenses cuyas viviendas corren el riesgo de ser demolidas.
También asistieron Giles Paxman, el Embajador británico, y Steve Jones el Cónsul británico. Sr. Bryant era muy bien informado sobre el asunto, y quería tranquilizar las familias afectadas, asegurándolas que el gobierno británico es consciente y preocupado por la situación en la zona. Decía que, aunque el gobierno británico no tiene jurisdicción sobre los asuntos del estado español, haría todo lo posible dentro de su poder para ayudar. Hizo referencia al impacto detrimento del escándalo y el daño económico que ha resultado aquí.
Los propietarios le hablaban del nivel de estrés y de los gastos jurídicos que sufren debido a la amenaza del derribo, a pesar de haber comprado sus casas de buena fe, y a pesar de tener licencias correctas. Las familias subrayaron al Ministro que la situación necesita una solución rápida y justa. Maura Hillen, Presidenta del AUAN, planteaba el historial lamentable de la administración respeto a la indemnización de los Sres. Prior y los problemas relacionadas a la propuesta solución de la Junta de tratar de regularizar las casas una por una.
Tras charlar con los propietarios, el Ministro tuvo una reunión privado con el Alcalde de Albox, Sr. José García. Antes de salir, habló de una reunión prevista con Juan Espadas, el Consejero de Ordenación del territorio y Vivienda de la Junta de Andalucía entre otras actuaciones.
El AUAN intenta seguir todos los caminos posibles para conseguir una solución al problema de abusos urbanísticos en nuestra zona, incluyendo mandar reportes a los representantes del ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores británico, los diputados y los eurodiputados, informándoles sobre la situación actual.
Junto con cualquier camino jurídico disponible, la diplomacia y la presión de la opinión pública son vías efectivas para ayudarnos a lograr el objetivo de conseguir una solución rápida y efectiva al problema, así que todos los ciudadanos saldrán ganando.
